Pacific - introduction 

City of Pacific (founded in 1850s) lies on the Meramec River, about 30 miles west of St. Louis. Located alongside Interstate 44, the city of St. Louis is only a 30 minutes far. However, given the fact that Pacific is centered around Old Route 66, it means that residents of this city can profit from being close to a major city and yet enjoy living in a relatively small town – the population of the city is about 5,500.

History of Pacific 

In the downtown area, you will experience history – a significant part of it was built in the middle of the 19th century. But when talking about Pacific history, let us start from the beginning. Pacific was originally called the Town of Franklin. It became Pacific in 1859 in honor of the Pacific Railroad. The railroad development had the most significant  impact on the development of Pacific in the early decades. One can observe it even nowadays when he sees the city. First major event that changed Pacific was the Civil War. Before that, the town was quiet and peaceful and was slowly developing. But the Civil war had a ravaging effect on the city. General Sterling Price of the Confederate Army, raided the town in 1864. As a result of that, major bridges, depot and other railroad related facilities were burned. But in the years that followed, Pacific was rebuilt and started growing again. Another major event in Pacific’s history was in 1932, when United States Highway 66 was started. There was no obstacle to the development of Pacific after that.

Living in Pacific 

 Pacific is also well developed, modern and economically prosperous. The Pacific Area Chamber of Commerce is an organization made up of local businesses and industry, education and government officials. It experiences significant successes in making the town of Pacific a great place to live, work or to make business. In Pacific you can find businesses like a bank, flour mill, canning factory and more. The Missouri Pacific Railroad Company has its headquarters in Pacific.
